Helical Gear Drive

Calculation method of normal helical gear module: the normal modulus is equal to the end face modulus divided by the cosine of the helix angle. 

The normal helical gear module is the standard modulus, which is selected according to the standard modulus value. The end face module of helical gear is corresponding to the normal module and helix angle. Normal modulus is the modulus perpendicular to the helix direction. For straight teeth, the normal module is the end module. For helical teeth, the direction of tool feed is generally perpendicular to the starting surface, so the main parameters are the normal parameters. Helical gears are based on the normal modulus, while the end face modulus of spur gears is the same as the normal modulus. In general, if it is not specified, it refers to the standard modulus, that is, the normal modulus.

The helical gear teeth are helical, and there are different parameters on the end face perpendicular to the gear axis and the normal surface perpendicular to the helical surface of the tooth profile. The end face of the helical gear is a standard involute, but from the perspective of the processing and force of the helical gear, the normal surface parameters of the helical gear should be standard values.

Advantages of helical gear: 

(1) Good meshing performance: the meshing process between helical cylindrical gear teeth is an excessive process, and the force on the teeth is gradually from small to large, and then from large to small; Helical gears are suitable for high speed and heavy load. 

(2) Large coincidence degree: the increase of coincidence degree improves the bearing capacity of the gear. Thus, the service life of the gear is prolonged. The coincidence degree mainly depends on the meshing time, while the helical gear has long meshing time and large contact area, which reduces the stress. It makes the transmission stable and increases its economy. 

(3) Compact structure: the less the minimum number of teeth, the more compact the structure is.
