Helical rack and pinion has the following two characteristics:

(1) Since the rack tooth profile is straight, the normals of each point on the tooth profile are parallel. And because the rack is translated in the transmission process, the speed and direction of each point on the tooth profile are the same, so the pressure angles of each point on the rack are all equal, equal to the tooth profile angle, and the standard value is 20 °.

(2) The pitch on each line parallel to the addendum is the same, and the modulus is the same standard value. The parallel straight line with the tooth thickness equal to the width of the tooth groove is called the centerline, which is the reference line for determining the dimensions of each part of the rack.

For helical rack and pinion transmission with impact load, the following aspects should be noted:

1. The heat treatment hardness of the tooth surface is not easy to be too hard, HRC30~HRC35 is enough. If the tooth surface is too hard, the tooth will crack under impact load.

2. Haoshi is designed as a modified gear, which is also a negative modified gear. The negative modification will help to improve the bending strength of the tooth root and the impact resistance of the gear.

3. The quenching depth of the tooth surface is not easy to be too deep, generally 1/5m~1/10m (m: modulus). The material at the center should be kept with enough toughness to cushion the external impact load.

4. The structure shall have enough impact resistance and enough rigidity to ensure the operation of gear rack.

5. The design speed is not easy to be too high.

6. If the structure allows, the module m should be slightly larger, which is particularly important for starting transmission with impact load.

7. It is recommended to select sliding bearing rather than rolling bearing for bearing selection. Sliding bearing can have good impact resistance, but it should be well lubricated.
