1、 Milling of straight rack
The straight M4 gear rack is milled with a disc gear milling cutter on a horizontal universal milling machine.
1. Milling of short M4 gear rack
(1) Selection of milling cutter: the milling cutter for milling rack generally adopts a set of No. 8 disk-shaped straight tooth cylindrical gear milling cutter among 8. When the rack precision is required to be high, a special rack milling cutter can be used.
(2) Clamping of workpieces: workpieces are clamped with flat tongs or directly pressed on the worktable. When there are a large number of workpieces, special clamps can be used. No matter which clamping method is adopted, the tooth top surface of rack blank must be parallel to the worktable,the positioning reference surface on one side of the blank must be parallel to the transverse feed direction of the worktable.
(3) Control of tooth pitch: when the rack is milled, after each tooth is milled, the workbench moves one tooth pitch laterally, which is called shift distance.
Common displacement methods include for M4 gear rack:
Dial method: use the cross feed handle of the worktable to turn the dial by a certain number of grids to realize the shift distance. This method is only applicable to a small number of short racks with low accuracy requirements.
Indexing disc method: refit the indexing disc and indexing handle of the indexing head on the head of the transverse feed lead screw of the worktable.
Planing is realized by the reciprocating linear motion of the planer relative to the workpiece and the intermittent feed motion of the workbench (or tool holder).
Planing is intermittent cutting. In each reciprocating process, the planer is impacted greatly when cutting into the workpiece; The reverse inertia of the instantaneous reversing motion is large, so the planing speed cannot be too high; The return travel planer does not participate in cutting, resulting in the loss of empty travel time. Therefore, the productivity of planing is low.
Due to its simple structure, convenient operation and strong versatility, the planer is suitable for processing various planes, guide rail surfaces, straight grooves, dovetail grooves, T-grooves, etc. in multi variety, single piece and small batch production. After the auxiliary device is added, it can be used for the processing of rack.
