3-piece flexible coupling half, Ideal for connecting engines or electric motors to pumps, drive shafts, etc. A complete 3-piece coupling consists of two coupling halves from compatible series and one corresponding flexible insert.

The following series L jaw coupling halves can be interchanged; L-90 with L-095 and L-099 with L-100.

Coupled length is the overall length of an assembled 3-piece coupling of the same series.

Most couplings have been standardized or normalized. The task of general mechanical designers is to select couplings. The basic steps for selection are:

1. Select the type of coupling

The size and nature of working load, speed, working environment, etc. shall be fully understood, and the type of coupling shall be selected in combination with the performance, application range and application occasions of common couplings.

① Rigid coupling can be selected for the short shaft with low speed and high rigidity.

② Flexible coupling without elastic element can be selected for long shaft with low speed and small rigidity.

③ Gear coupling is selected for heavy machinery with large transmission torque.

④ For machinery with high speed, vibration and impact, flexible coupling with elastic element is selected.

⑤ Universal coupling shall be selected for the two shafts with large change of axis position.

⑥ For shafts with safety protection requirements, safety couplings shall be selected.

L Jaw coupling is composed of two metal jaw discs and an elastomer. The two metal jaw discs are generally 45 # steel, but aluminum alloy can also be used when sensitive load is required.

Jaw coupling is processed by turning, milling, broaching and other machining methods, and then is subject to overall heat treatment. In order to ensure sufficient mechanical strength, there is also a kind of claw plate casting on the market, which can be produced in large quantities without processing loss. Therefore, the price is much lower than machining, but the casting performance is not very good.
