Modulus m, pressure angle, worm diameter coefficient Q, lead angle, number of worm heads, number of worm gear teeth, addendum height coefficient (take 1) and backlash coefficient (take 0.2).

Among them, modulus m and pressure angle refer to the modulus and pressure angle of worm shaft surface, that is, the modulus and pressure angle of worm gear end face, which are standard values.

The worm diameter coefficient q is the ratio of the worm indexing circle diameter to its modulus M.

Addendum circle diameter

Full tooth height = 2.2 * modulus

Tooth root circle diameter = tooth tip circle diameter - 2 * tooth full height

Axial tooth thickness = 0.5 * axial tooth pitch

Indexing circle diameter = addendum circle diameter - 2 * modulus

Lead angle: Tan lead angle = modulus * number of Heads / diameter of dividing circle

Worm gear and worm mechanism is often used to transmit the motion and power between two staggered shafts. Worm gear and worm are equivalent to gear and rack in the middle plane, and the shape of worm is similar to that of screw.

A large transmission ratio can be obtained, and the reducer is more compact than the staggered helical gear mechanism.

The meshing tooth surfaces of the two wheels are in line contact, and their bearing capacity is much higher than that of the staggered helical gear mechanism.

Worm gear sets transmission is equivalent to spiral transmission, which is a multi tooth meshing transmission. Therefore, it is stable in transmission, low in noise and self-locking.

When the lead angle of the worm is less than the equivalent friction angle between the meshing gear teeth, the mechanism is self-locking and can achieve reverse self-locking, that is, only the worm can drive the worm, but not the worm.

When the worm gear sets are engaged, the relative sliding speed between the meshing gear teeth is large, so the friction loss is large and the efficiency is low.

The axial force of worm is large.

Worm gear and worm mechanism is often used in situations where two shafts are staggered, transmission ratio is large, transmission power is not large or intermittent work.
