5PK Belt

Automobile PK belt (also known as groove belt) has been used since 1979 to replace V-belt (V-belt or fan belt) as automobile power transmission. 

PK belt is the abbreviation of "poly rib K-type" belt, which means "multi groove K-type side profile" belt. The longitudinal rib design of PK belt can be used to install into the groove of pulley and drive parts.

PK belt is wider and thinner than V-belt, usually 3pk to 10pk (3-10 mountains, ribs). The above two characteristics are also two reasons why PK belt is better than traditional V-belt.

A wider belt has more efficient power transmission. The rib design expands the contact area between the belt and the pulley and gives full play to the maximum adhesion.

In addition, the back of the PK belt can be used to drive the action of other parts and components, or to adjust the belt tension with a fixed or automatic tension regulator.

PK belt is relatively thin and easy to install on the pulley with small diameter, which is very helpful for engineers to develop the transmission device with small volume and space.

Based on the above characteristics, PK belt can use a longer belt to drive the whole group of transmission parts, which is commonly known as "serpentine belt".

PK belt structure and advantages are shown in picture 1. The belt structure is mainly composed of three parts:

1. Rubber or woven belt back structure

2. Polyester fiber core wire (2-strand or 3-strand spiral)

3. Rubber tooth structure

Difference between 5pk and 6pk pulley

The number of peaks for 5PK belt is different. PK indicates the model of the multi-wedge belt, 5pk indicates that the belt of PK model has 5 peaks, and 6pk indicates that the belt of PK model has 6 peaks.

The performance for 5PK belt is different. The larger the peak number of the pulley, the greater the transmission capacity it can bear. Obviously, compared with the pulley of 5pk and 6pk, the transmission capacity of 5pk is less than that of 6pk.
