Selection principle of coupling

(1) Fixed rigid coupling can be selected for short shaft with high rigidity at low speed


(2) Movable rigid coupling can be selected for long shaft with small low speed rigidity:


When the transmission torque is large, select the gear coupling


When the axes cross, universal coupling shall be selected


(3) Elastic coupling shall be selected for high-speed vibration and frequent forward and reverse rotation.

Coupling and clutch are common parts that connect the two shafts in the machine and make them rotate together in order to transmit power and motion.


For example: coupling between automobile diesel engine and gearbox, coupling between gearbox and rear axle; Rotary clutch of machine tool; Coupling between motor and reducer.




According to the working characteristics, it is divided into:


1. Coupling: firmly connect the two shafts together and cannot be separated during operation.


2. Clutch: the two shafts can be connected or separated at any time according to work needs.


3. Safety coupling and safety clutch


When the machine is working, if the torque exceeds the specified value, it can be automatically disconnected or separated to ensure that the main parts of the machine are protected from overload and damage.


Couplings and clutches have been standardized, so it is only required to master the characteristics, selection principles and methods of different types of couplings and clutches, so as to select according to the use requirements.
