Types and Characteristics of Commonly Used Threads:

1. Ordinary thread

The tooth shape is an equilateral triangle, the tooth shape angle is 60°, and the external thread root is allowed to have a larger fillet to reduce stress concentration. Threads with the same nominal diameter can be divided into coarse thread and fine thread according to the pitch. General static connections often use coarse threads. The fine thread has good self-locking performance, but is not wear-resistant. It is often used in thin-walled parts or in connections subject to shock, vibration and variable loads, and can also be used for adjustment threads of fine-tuning mechanisms.

2. Pipe threads without thread seal

The tooth shape is an isosceles triangle, the tooth shape angle is 55°, and the tooth crest has a larger rounded corner. The pipe thread is an inch fine thread, and the size code is the major diameter of the inner thread of the pipe. Suitable for fittings, cocks, and valve accessories.

3. Pipe threads sealed with threads

The tooth shape angle is an isosceles triangle, the tooth shape angle is 55°, and the tooth crest has a larger rounded corner. The threads are distributed on the conical pipe wall with a taper of 1:16. Including conical internal thread and conical external thread and conical external thread and cylindrical internal thread two connection forms. After the thread is screwed together, its own deformation is used to ensure the tightness of the connection. Suitable for fittings, cocks, valves and accessories.

4. Rectangular thread

The tooth shape is square. The transmission efficiency is high, but the root strength is low. After the screw pair is worn, the gap is difficult to repair and compensate. There is no national standard for rectangular threads. There are few applications, and it is gradually replaced by trapezoidal threads.

5. Trapezoidal thread

The tooth shape is isosceles trapezoid, the tooth shape angle is 30°, the transmission efficiency is lower than that of the rectangular thread, but the processability is good, the root strength is high, and the neutrality is good. When a split nut is used, the wear clearance can be compensated. Trapezoidal thread is the most commonly used transmission thread.

6. Serrated thread

The tooth shape is an isosceles trapezoid, the tooth shape angle of the working face is 3°, and the tooth shape angle of the non-working face is 30°. The root of the external thread has a larger fillet to reduce stress concentration. After the internal and external threads are screwed together, there is no gap at the large diameter, which is convenient for centering, high transmission efficiency, and high root strength. Suitable for screw drives with unidirectional loads.
