LPG is a colorless gas under normal temperature and pressure, with a gas density of 2.35kg/m³; it becomes a colorless and volatile liquid under pressure or cooling conditions, with a liquid density of 580kg/m³. In addition, LPG also has the following important properties: 1) High calorific value. The calorific value of LPG is 25200kcal/m³, which is three times the calorific value of natural gas; 2) The combustion products are clean and environmentally friendly: the emission of sulfide and nitrogen oxides after complete combustion is comparable to that of natural gas, which is a relatively clean energy; 3) Flammable and explosive sex. LPG has a low flash point (-140 to -40°C), and can be ignited by tiny sparks after contact with air; 4) Low toxicity. When the concentration of liquefied petroleum gas in the air is less than 1%, there is basically no danger to human health. However, prolonged exposure to high concentrations of liquefied petroleum gas can have adverse effects on the nervous system. If the concentration of liquefied petroleum gas in the air exceeds 10%, it will cause suffocation.
Regarding the above four properties, the first two determine that LPG can be an ideal fuel, while the last two properties reflect its certain dangers. In actual life, LPG is indeed classified as a hazardous chemical.
use
There are two main uses of liquefied petroleum gas: fuel and chemical. For the purpose of fuel, as mentioned above, liquefied petroleum gas has become an excellent fuel due to its high calorific value and cleanliness and environmental protection. In practical applications, it is often used as a heat source for cooking, heating, automobiles and other terminals. LPG is a mixed gas, and users have relatively low quality requirements; in terms of chemical applications, liquefied petroleum gas is mainly used as a raw material for the production of propylene and gasoline additives, and has a mutual substitution relationship with naphtha. In practical applications, the proportion of chemical gas mixture is small, and there are special requirements for quality.
